On 20. of May, we celebrate the World Bee Day, which is aimed at raising awareness of the importance of bees and other pollinators for humanity. In addition to the well-known Carniolan bee, in Slovenia, there are about 550 species of lonely bees and bumblebees, which are very important pollinators of cultural and other plants, so it’s an important holiday in Slovenia.
The main purpose of the World Bee Day is to draw the attention of the world public to the importance of bees and other pollinators for humanity and its existence. As much as a third of the food produced depends on the pollination, therefore bees and other pollinators are of key importance for successful and sustainable agricultural production. Due to human activity and its impact on the environment, bees and other pollinators have been increasingly endangered in the last period, especially in areas with intensive agriculture.
So we have to take care of bees and make sure they won’t die out because we need them.
